Labasa assist cyclone victims

- LAISA LUI Edited by Leone Cabenatabua

The Labasa football team together with management have stepped forward to support families who were affected by Cyclone Yasa.

On Friday, the Labasa Football Association handed over their donation to the Labasa Rotary Club.

Labasa FA president Rayaz Khan said they were trying to help the Rotary Club because they go out to assist families affected by this Category Five cyclone.

Khan said they were hoping the donation would assist in the repairing of many homes. “The funds have been collected by the Labasa football players and officials, families and fans and also from the North Pole Alliance Club,” he said. “It’s a tough time for everybody, we’re just trying to give something back to the communities.

“These communities have always come out to help and support us during their good times, so we thought of giving back to them,” Khan said. Labasa Rotary Club president John Prasad strongly believes that a difference is made when people pitch in to help.

“We’re really grateful to the sponsorship that will put a roof over many families,” he said.

“We Fijians are resilient people and together we will get through these challenging times.

“At the same time we are inviting corporate bodies and individuals to partner with us in the rehabilitation.”

Prasad assured that every single cent would be utilised in assisting the affected families.

“The donation will go towards the purchasing of roofs, roofing iron sheets, strappings, timbers, nails, screws and carriers hired for the transportation purposes.

“We’re anticipating to help five families with the $5000 that has been given,” Prasad added.

Meanwhile, Labasa will play Suva in the upcoming Champion versus Champion series.
