Suva and Lami Councils Extend Cashier Opening Hours: Tikoduadua
Ratepayers have been advised that the Suva and Lami Town Councils cashier hours have been extended and will open on Saturday to allow ratepayers to be able to pay their rates.
Suva and Lami special administrator Isikeli Tikoduadua said the respective councils have had good ratepayers and collection each year surpassed 80 per cent.
“We are happy to see that Suva and Lami ratepayers realise the need to pay their rates on time,” he said.
“And the council has reciprocated this by providing the services needed to have a wellfunctioning municipality.”
Mr Tikoduadua said the council realised that some ratepayers were busy during the weekdays and needed time outside of normal working hours. Mr Tikoduadua said if the ratepayers could ensure that rate was paid on time, the councils could ensure that they were flexible enough to allow the ratepayers to come to their offices.
The council is also giving a seven per cent discount if rates are paid in full by the end of February.
Mr Tikoduadua said timely payment of rates also allowed the council to make capital investments without resorting to loans.
Two specialised garbage trucks were purchased last year and this has allowed the council to equip its staff with the right tools as well.
The council has also highlighted that accrued rates accumulated over the year’s amounts to $20 million.
The cashier opening hours have extended to 5.30pm on weekdays and opens from 8am to 1pm on Saturday.
