POSSIBLE ELECTION DATES ANNOUNCED

The chairman of the Electoral Commission Suresh Chandra, has announced the possible dates for the 2022 General Election.

At the first meeting with political parties yesterday, he revealed that the first day the writ could be issued was May 26, 2022 setting the election date on July 9, 2022. Mr Chandra further stated that the last date the writ could be issued would be November 26, 2022 which means elections would be held on January 9, 2023.

He said in accordance with Section 54 of the Fijian Constitution, the Electoral Commission would be reviewing the total number of seats for the next election.

It is anticipated that this will be done in June this year.

A ball draw will be done to determine the first number that will appear on the ballot paper.
