Rapist uncle gets 15 years behind bars

After 13 years, a student who was 11 years old when she was sexually preyed upon by her uncle, finally got justice when her uncle was jailed to 15 years imprisonment.

The 30-year-old offender is the victim’s paternal uncle.

In 2008, the victim was 11 years of age and a Year 6 student was living in the same house with the offender in Ba.

The offender raped the victim twice.

While sentencing the offender, Justice Sunil Sharma said to him: “You have committed serious offences against your niece who you were supposed to protect and care. “The punishment ought to be such that it takes into account the society’s outrage and denunciation against such conduct.”

The offender has to serve a non-parole period of 13 years before he would be eligible for parole. ASHNA KUMAR
