Two years ago, Ashlein Priyashna Prakash’s interest in flowers motivated her to start a business. Now with Valentine’s Day in two weeks Ms Prakash has what you need to make your loved one feel special on Sunday, February 14.

The 21-year-old university student operates from her home making bouquets and hampers for all occasions whether it is for a birthday, engagement, anniversary, appreciation hamper, baby shower or Valentine she has you covered.

The name of her business is V.Ley and Leins.

“I started this business two years ago and got it registered last year,” Ms Prakash said.

“We deliver bouquets and gift hampers for any occasion and we also customise hampers according to what customers want.

“We have a wide range of suggestions and ideas available for them to choose from.

“I buy my products from gift shops and Chinese shops in Suva including supermarkets.

“My little, 12-year-old sister usually helps me with my orders especially when we’re baking cupcakes.

“What actually motivated me to start this business is my love for flowers.

“At the start I really didn’t know how to make bouquets but then gradually I learnt from You Tube.

“Another reason being I wanted to earn money during my school holidays after completing Year 13.

“I had an urge to do something different or something only a few people were doing at that time.”

Valentine’s Day

Ms Prakash started getting Valentine’s Day orders early this month with people contacting her for more information about the hampers and bouquets which she does.

“There is no big deal about preparing for an order. Sometimes it would mean extra errands regarding the availability of items to meet my orders.

“But regardless we always manage to do our deliveries to the right location on time.

“What frustrates me is when people cancel their orders at the last minute, this wastes all my efforts and sometimes also customers do not respond on time.

“Due to this, I now take payments beforehand to avoid any last minute cancellations.”

Aim

She said: “My aim is to grow my small business into a big one in the coming years which I will definitely do gradually. I usually promise myself to never disappoint any of my customers.

“This business wouldn’t have started without the support of my mom and dad and my faith in God.

“From the day I started until today I have had more than 400 customers and I have already received more than 15 messages every day enquiring about the bouquets and hampers.”
