‘Stay Away From Flooded Rivers, Streams’
Members of the public and motorists were advised to stay away and refrain from crossing flooded rivers, streams, roads and walkways.
The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) yesterday was closely monitoring the system which is likely to form into a Tropical Cyclone.
The NDMO in their Public Advisory two notice was advising the public of the flash flood alert for low lying areas and areas adjacent to major rivers and streams for Vanua Levu, Vunibau in Serua to Veivatuloa Village in Namosi and upper Waidina River from Delailasakau to Navunikabi. Members of the public and motorists were advised to stay away and refrain from crossing flooded rivers, streams, roads and walkways.
The Fiji Meteorological Service yesterday advised Fijians to make necessary arrangements to prepare and stay informed with the latest weather update following the flash flood warning for low lying areas.
“Should there be the need to evacuate, ensure that your family is aware of your nearest evacuation centre and that all movement is made with caution,” the statement said.
“Remember to pack food and necessities that should last for at least 48 hours, and that the needs of all family members are considered. “If you are unsure about your nearest evacuation centre and/ or need assistance with evacuation, please call a Police Station near you.”
