- SEREANA SALALO SUVA Edited by Osea Bola sereana.salalo@fijisun.com.fj

Naitasiri halfback Jone Navuso, would like to be the next national rugby rep from Sawani Village, Naitasiri. The village rugby club, Waimanu, in existence for over 90 years, has produced national reps like Ro Kini Kiliraki, Nasoni Roko, Sailosi Naiteqe, and Asaeli Naiteqe.

And the 26 –year-old, former Sila Central High School student want to be the next.

He played for Uluinakau during the Super 7s Series at Lawaqa Park, Siagtoka last week.

“I feel I’ve to switch from 15s to 7s to improve my fitness for the new season,” he said.

“Competing as a halfback at the 7s has taught me a lot.

“I will try my best to reach the level where most rugby players are at right now.

“I want to follow into the footsteps of my uncle, Sailosi Naiteqe. “I know I can do it, if I train hard and have my eyes fixed on the prize.”

Navuso indicated that the Super 7s Series was a great platform by Fiji Rugby Union to show the potential of local players.

“I will always try my best to be a national 7s rep,” he said.

“I played for Waimanu when

I was 17, along with Roko and Iliesa Keresoni, who were senior players then.

“And only last week I joined Uluinakau, after we met at the finals of the Burebasaga 7s, where they approached me. I’m grateful for this opportunity to play for them and be part of the series.

“Have learnt a lot of skills especially from Jerry Tuwai who inspires me a lot,” Navuso added. “He is one player I always look up to and I want to be like him.” Navuso will return to the Highlanders for the Skipper Cup Premiership season which starts in April.
