Police Blue Lead Super 7s
Police Blue are leading the Super 7s Series rankings. This was after they beat Raiwasa Taveuni 7-5 in the Cup final at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka last Saturday.
The performance of both teams had the fans sitting on the edge of their seats.
It also set the platform of a fast, physical and exiting 7s rugby series. Police Blue had the services of Fijian 7s rep Waisea Nacuqu, former Olympic gold medallist Samisoni Viriviri, captain Keponi Paul, Suliano Volivoli, Apenisa Cakaubalavu and Terio Tamani.
“We knew Raiwasa Taveuni would come hard on us therefore we worked on a game plan and I thank the players for playing according to it in the final,” said Paul.
“After playing against them in the final pool match, we were aware of the threat the young lads from Taveuni can impose.
“I thank my players for playing their hearts out and winning the first title of the four leg Super 7s Series at Lawaqa Park.”
Paul also thanked Fiji Rugby for supporting 7s and hosting the four tough series in the coming months. “We as players know that we need to be at our best if we are to represent Police Blue in the next leg,” he said. “The Police 7s team have an abundance of talents and if a player is not performing, there is a likely chance that he can be dropped.
“So we need to be at our best, train daily and perform up to par during training in order to represent any Police team in the 7s competition.” Police Blue sit on top of the Super 7s Series rankings with 22 points.
They are pooled in Group A with Uluinakau, Fire and BLK Stallions for the second leg.
