Raiwasa Taveuni Rest, Prepare

-

Raiwasa Taveuni are looking forward to the second leg of the Super 7s Series after an electrifying performance in reaching the final of the first leg at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka last weekend.

The team from the Garden Island of Fiji were at their best form upsetting Police White in the quarterfinal and then beating Ratu Filise in the semifinal before going down 7-5 to Police Blue in the final.

Raiwasa Taveuni captain Tevita Daugunu said “We want to thank Fiji Rugby for providing this platform where the players from the island can come and showcase their talents.”

He added that they don’t have any national reps but the motivation and dedication from the players and the coaches of the Raiwasa Taveuni have helped them achieve such a milestone.

“We never thought of playing in the final.

“We were taking each game at a time and played according to our game plan which was to beat every team we played and by doing this we realised that we have reached the final of the first leg” said Daugunu.

He indicated that the players had put in a lot of hardwork and dedication in the training which resulted in their achievement.

“We have been training as a group since late last year and we have gone through a lot of hurdles to make it into this tournament” he said.

“We won’t be part of the Uprising 7s as we need to rest and prepare for the next leg.

“There are some niggling injuries and by resting plus recovering well these players will be up to par against other tough teams in the next leg of the Super Sevens Series” said Daugunu.

He added that his players are taking the Super 7s Series seriously as it could open doors for some to make it into the Fijian 7s team in future.

“We are targeting at least one or two of our players to don the national jersey but for that we need to impress coach Gareth Baber and for them to their way into the Fijian 7s extended squad.”

Raiwasa Taveuni sit on second place on the Super Sevens Series rankings with 19 points. They have been pooled with Tabadamu, Wadigi Salvo and Eastern Saints for the second leg will be held at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

“We won’t be part of the Uprising 7s as we need to rest and prepare for the next leg”
