Known as the ‘game-breaker’, Waisea Nacuqu is not a new name in the world of rugby. Mr Nacuqu is part of the national rugby sevens team and is well known for his speed and scoring winning tries.

Although originally from Malakati village in the Yasawa islands, he grew up in Votua village in Ba.

His love for rugby clearly shows in his game play as he has also been the recipient of awards such as Player of the final 2018 Singapore Sevens. Currently, Mr Nacuqu is part of the Police Blues rugby team for local rugby tournaments.

What are your hobbies?

I love playing rugby, listening to music, socialising with people, sharing jokes and making my brothers at the rugby camp laugh.

How many places in Fiji have you been to?

I have been to Ba, Suva, Nadi, Sigatoka, the Yasawa islands, Savusavu and Taveuni – most of the places I have been to is because of the different rugby tournaments.

What is the one place in Fiji you would take every visitor to?

Turtle Island Resort in the Yasawa Islands.

I would want every visitor to experience and see the traditional dance ‘meke’ performed at the resort. I would also like to take them to Sawa-i-Lau caves as it is simply beautiful.

There is no other place in Fiji like that.

What’s your favourite place in Fiji for a pie or coffee?

There is this small café in Ba called Lin’s Café. It has the best coffee and also lovely cakes at a very cheap price.

What is your favourite secret backyard spot?

It would have to be Natadola beach.

Travelling from Ba, we see something different with the blue ocean and white sandy beach. It is also a great place for picnic.

What is the one spot in Fiji on top of your bucket list?

The Lau group. I heard it is beautiful and I want to visit the islands in the group to experience it first-hand.
