Xavier College head girl Elenoa Qasenivalu said she was not expecting to be badged as the school head girl during the school’s investure ceremony in Ba yesterday.

“Honestly I’m really humbled because I never expected this. I’m always a quiet person. I’m very humbled, most of the time and I’m soft spoken so being given this role. I’m still very surprised, to this day, but I’m thankful for the opportunity,” she said.

“I really want to maintain respect amongst all people in the council. At the end of the day we all need love and I feel like that’s what everyone deserves.”

School head boy Zain Ali said he was grateful to be given the chance to lead the Xavier College family. “I know it’s a big responsibility on my shoulders, but with everyone’s help and support and the almighty’s blessings, we will have a better tomorrow,” he said.

He said he hoped to bring back much of the school activities that were put on hold last year due to the COVID-19 restrictions

“As the Government has stated, the pre-COVID events will be back and one of them on the school calendar is the cadet training, which will be back and the day for the students,” he said

“I dedicate this achievement to my parents for the love and support, and also for my friends to help me be what I am today.”

While officiating as chief guest, Southern Cross Foods chief executive officer Vishwa Sharma said the school prefects needed to also work together and assist each other where possible.

“To be effective in roles as school captains, you don’t always have to be strong, decisive and controlling. Results could also be realised by being compassionate and showing empathy, effective leadership is the art of balancing, one size fits all style is not effective, certainly not for long,” he said.

Thirty prefects were badged, comprising of 24 school patrols and six school prefects.
