A HEAVY RAIN ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR VANUA LEVU, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS AND NORTHERN LAU GROUP.

SITUATION:

AN ACTIVE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE LIES TO THE NORTH OF FIJI AND IS EXPECTED TO DRIFT SOUTH AND AFFECT THE NORTHERN PARTS OF THE GROUP LATER TODAY.

FORECAST FOR VANUA LEVU, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS AND NORTHERN LAU GROUP: CLOUDY PERIODS WITH SOME SHOWERS AND AFTERNOON OR EVENING THUNDERSTORMS. EXPECT SHOWERS TO INCREASE TO RAIN.

POSSIBLE IMPACTS:

- RISK OF FLASH FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS DURING PERSISTENT LOCALISED HEAVY FALLS.

- RISK OF FLOODING OF SMALL RIVERS, CREEKS AND ROADS.

- POOR VISIBILITY ON ROADS IN AREAS OF HEAVY RAIN FOR MOTORISTS.

- REDUCED VISIBILITY AT SEA.

GROUP

For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and northern Lau group:

Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thunderstorms. Showers increasing to rain and becoming frequent and heavy later today.

For Yasawa group, eastern parts and interior of Viti Levu and Kadavu:

Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms over the rest of Viti Levu. Elsewhere, fine apart from brief showers.

Moderate to fresh easterly winds becoming southeast to northerly later today. Moderate to rough seas.

OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW:

Periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lomaiviti and northern Lau group. Occasional showers and few thunderstorms over Yasawa and Mamanuca group, the northern and eastern parts [Tavua through to Korovou, to Suva till Navua] and interior of the Viti Levu. Showers increasing to rain and becoming frequent and heavy from the afternoon. Cloudy periods with some showers especially in the afternoon or evening and isolated thunderstorms over the rest of Viti Levu and Kadavu. Cloudy periods with some showers elsewhere.

For Navua / Suva / Nausori : Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Outlook for TOMORROW: Occasional showers and few thunderstorms.

For Sigatoka / Coral Coast : Fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms. Outlook for TOMORROW: Cloudy periods with some showers especially in the afternoon or evening and isolated thunderstorms. Showers becoming frequent and possible heavy from evening.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba : Fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms. Outlook for TOMORROW: Cloudy periods with some showers especially in the afternoon or evening and isolated thunderstorms.
