Alow pressure system lies slow moving to the west of Fiji. This was confirmed by the Fiji Meteorological Service forecaster, Iosefo Cauravouvinaka yesterday. Mr Cauravouvinaka said the associated active trough of low pressure would continue to bring rain and windy conditions over most parts of the country and likely would ease away by Wednesday. “A low pressure system lies to the west of Fiji. The associated active trough of low pressure with cloud and rain bands continued to affect the Fiji Group,” he said.

“A heavy rain warning remains in force for the whole Fiji group. Expect periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over most places. There will be poor visibility in areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms.”

The forecaster said that a strong wind warning remains in force over the land areas of the northern parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, Yasawa, northern Lau and Lomaiviti group with fresh to strong north to northwest winds of up to 45 km/hr.

“For mariners, a strong wind warning remains in force for the Northern Vanua Levu, Yasawa and Lau Waters, Vatu-i-Ra passage and Koro Sea,” he said.

“North to northwest winds 20 to 25 knots with gusts of up to 30 knots can be expected. Rough to very rough seas with moderate northwest swells.”

He said in the outlook for Wednesday, there were some showers with isolated thunderstorms over the interior and northern parts of Vanua Levu, Viti Levu, Taveuni and Kadavu elsewhere expect cloudy periods with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. The weather office had urged the public to bear in mind that isolated heavy falls may lead to flash flooding to low lying areas.
