VILLAGERS GIFT MATERIALS TO 3 HOUSES ON KIA
The people of Naividamu will be handing over timber for three houses to Kia Island as a gift.
This was announced to the village head man during a consultation with the District Officer of Seaqaqa and Assistant Roko Tui Macuata at the Commissioner Northern’s office yesterday. Naividamu Rehabilitation officer Pita Ramasima said they wanted to help their kinsmen.
“After the completion of our rehabilitation by the end of this month, we will cut down wood suitable for three houses,” Mr Ramasima said. “These materials will be presented to Tui Macuata, and he will hand it over to the people of Kia. “The size of each house will be 24 by 18 that is the recommended plan from the Regional Development. “Tui Macuata will also assist in the rest of the materials.
“We will also send our carpenters to help with the building of the three houses.”
Mr Ramasima said in Naividamu there were 26 house affected while on Kia while the whole village was affected by the recent cyclone.
“We understand their needs,” he said.
The former Republic of Fiji Military Forces officer said that many people have helped through kind donations of food rations and tarpaulins, but the main need was to have a roof over their heads.
With that similar understanding they hope that their gift to the people of Kia will make their bonds stronger and continue to look out for each other as the people of Macuata.
Mr Ramasima said that a separate set of housing materials for one house will be sent to Macuatai Wai for a fellow kinsmen whose house was also destroyed during Cyclone Yasa
