Nabua Brawl: Bad Blood Began Two Years Ago

A dog which was the alleged instigator’s pet had gone missing.

The fight in Nabua on Tuesday resembled a movie scene as youths from the Topline area and Nabua Koro clashed. And talks with witnesses and residents claim the bad blood began from one who is alleged to be the instigator of the whole kerfuffle. On Tuesday, 18 youths involved were questioned by the Police and released. No charges laid yet confirmed Police spokesperson Savaira Tabua. Cane knives, golf clubs, bats, pieces of wood and corrugated iron were used as shields. The row on Tuesday started from the rugby field at Sukanaivalu Road.

Two years ago

It seems the cause of the whole affair is linked to a dog. From witness interviews and conversations, it has been established that the fight between the Topline group led by the alleged instigator who surrendered himself to Police actually started two years ago.

The dog which was the alleged instigator’s pet had gone missing. After discovering that the dog was at a neighbour’s place, the instigator assaulted his elderly neighbour and a young man.

There was retaliation from the Sukanaivalu Road residents and the instigator was confronted.

And in his rush to get away from the angry group, he hit another young man as he was reversing his vehicle out of the driveway. The young man was from Nabua Village. The accident led to the young man’s leg being amputated.

The witnesses say following that the alleged instigator had stayed away from the area for a while, but the bad blood between the crew led by the instigator who is alleged to be a major drug peddler in the area started.

The sparks were given wind two weeks ago, and the Topline group armed with cane knives and bats attacked the Nabua villagers on a Friday night following an assault on two girls linked to the instigator.

For now, Police’s chief operation officer Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdul Khan has brokered a ceasefire.
