VILLAGERS GET SEWING MACHINES FOR PLANTING TREES
Six villages are expected to gain more income through a request they put to the Ministry of Environment. The six villages are Delailasekau, Navurevure, Nasele, Naseuvou, Nabukaluka and Wainawaqa in the Naitasiri Province.
Last year, they helped the Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Agriculture, Waterways and Environment and Fiji Ridge to Reef in planting trees at the Waidina catchment. For helping, the officials from the Ministry of Environment have asked the villagers what they wanted, and they requested sewing machines.

Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterways and Environment Mahendra Reddy handed over the sewing machines to them at Navurevure village, yesterday.
“You are assisting Fiji to fight climate change as well as preserving our environment for future generations,” Mr Reddy said.
“You have helped contribute to the national target led by the Ministry of Forestry, that is the 30 million trees in 15 years.

“By doing so, we are showcasing the use of nature-based solutions to reduce vulnerability to the impacts of climate change to our beautiful Fiji and investment in our biodiversity to enhance resilience of all Fijian communities,” he said.
The other three villages that were involved in planting trees at the Wainawaqa catchment were Lomai, Narukunibua and Digove.
They have aimed to plant seedlings in 180 hectares at the catchment where they have already planted seedlings in 150 hectares with 30 hectares left to be planted. challenged the villagers to plant more tree
