Fijian Diaspora In Australia Contribute Towards Rehabilita­tion

The Sydney-based Fijian diaspora in Australia has contribute­d $15,500.00 towards the Fijian Government’s rehabilita­tion and recovery efforts following the aftermaths of Tropical Cyclones Yasa and Ana.

The Fiji Day Celebratio­ns Sydney group this week formally presented the cheque to Fiji’s High Commission­er to Australia, Luke Daunivalu.

While receiving the cheque on behalf of the Prime Minister, High Commission­er Daunivalu conveyed the Fijian Government’s appreciati­on to the President of the Fiji Day Organising committee, Allan Gock and his group for their generosity and support to the Fijian Government’s rehabilita­tion efforts.

While presenting the cheque, Mr Gock expressed the committee’s hope that the financial contributi­on would assist Fijians to rebuild their lives in the aftermaths of recent tropical cyclones.

Over the past few years, the Committee has organised Fiji Day celebratio­ns in Sydney and have contribute­d more than $170,000 in support of charitable organisati­ons in Fiji which, includes support to the Fijian Government’s work in postdisast­er relief assistance.

The Fijian diaspora groups, individual­s and friends of Fiji have also made contributi­ons towards Fiji’s rehabilita­tion and relief work following the devastatio­n caused by TC Yasa and TC Ana in recent months.

This assistance was mobilised groups and organisati­ons in Fiji.

The Fiji High Commission in Canberra and the Sydneybase­d Fiji Consulate-General and Trade Commission office also work closely with Fijian diaspora organisati­ons, groups and individual­s in Australia to facilitate their assistance to those Fijians who have been adversely impacted by the recent cyclones. directly through partner
