‘We Will Arrest You’

The Fiji Police Force, in the past 24 hours, arrested 53 people for breaching health restrictio­ns and curfew hours. Out of the 53 cases, 44 were linked to either alcohol or kava consumptio­n. This number includes seven people in the North, arrested for being intoxicate­d at Naduri Village, Macuata. Police said they would not hesitate to arrest people breaching public order.

Fifty–three people were arrested over the past 24 hours for breach of health restrictio­ns and curfew orders, Police has confirmed.

Out of that number, 44 cases were linked to either alcohol or kava consumptio­n. Acting Commission­er of Police Rusiate Tudravu said Fijians must understand that the restrictio­ns and curfews were put in place for the safety and benefits of everyone in the country. “This has shown that some people are still taking advantage of the instructio­ns and advisories put in place,” Mr Tudravu said. In the Southern Division, 34 cases including nine people, were found drunk at the Laucala Beach area; two other people were arrested at Viwawa in Navua for being intoxicate­d.

Two other men were found drunk at Tacirua during curfew hours, while a 28-year-old man was arrested at Nabua after he was found loitering.

Also arrested were six men from Tuirara in Makoi. All were found drunk, in breach of the health restrictio­ns. Eight other people were also found intoxicate­d at Narere. A 35-year-old man was found driving without a pass during curfew hours along the Nabua area. A 16-year-old student was arrested from the Rokara Settlement after he was trying to cross the border at Wainibuku.

In the Eastern Division, there were nine cases, which includes four people who were found drinking inside a vehicle along the Bau Road area. Three were arrested for drinking kava at the Baulevu area while two farmers of Vunidawa were found drunk along the Serea Road in Naitasiri during curfew hours.

In the North, seven people were found intoxicate­d at Naduri Village in Macuata. The West recorded three cases, all related to curfew breaches and were arrested from the Natokowaqa area after being found intoxicate­d.

ACP Tudravu is reminding the public that his officers will continue to arrest people who are not following instructio­ns and advisories issued by the Government.
