The Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Board, Management and Staff has saluted all the frontline warriors for their compassion, sacrifices that they are making to save us all.

SCGF Chief Executive Officer Raj Sharma said this was a national call for the country and for the people and for what these frontline workers and their families are doing to save us.

“A word of encouragement, appreciation and big Vinaka Vakalevu to all of them,” Mr Sharma.

“At this time if we can help and assist them will be appreciated.

“We also pray for all those in the hospital or at home or in overseas going through difficult times. Our support and appreciation also goes to the government machinery for the execution of the plans.

“Let’s be positive and strong, that we all will come out of it,” said Mr Sharma.

He added that at SCGF, operations have been normal which included approving loans and making payments for our cane growers.

“Our Lautoka and Nadi office hours reduced to 8am to 1pm but the rest of the districts have normal services.

“Whilst the safety of our staff and welfare is important, equally important is the need of the growers.

“If they are not able to reach to the office,

we still can provide services to them. On the precautionary measures some of the staff are working from home and or from other nearest offices.”

With the crushing dates already announced by the Sugar Industry Tribunal (Lautoka Mill – 14 th June,

Rarawai Mill -23 rd June and Labasa Mill -7 th July 2021), Mr Sharma said all the relevant industry agencies are working on the pre- harvesting requirement, hoping that the environment will ease.

“The SCGF has also started with pre-harvesting loan promotion, for the growers to prepare themselves.”

Mr Sharma said they would always be there to assist the growers for the funding needs but have requested the growers to consider responsible borrowing than to be overburdened.s of people living with disabilities,” she said.
