Public warned to follow COVID-19 regulations
The Fiji Police Force means business as they begun strengthening enforcement of the Public Health Act measures. Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the guidelines had already been published in the gazette.
“These urgent actions are targeted at ensuring Fijians adhering to the instructions as stipulated under the Public Health Act,” he said. “It was noticed that people still do not adhere to the instructions and not seriously taking into consideration the impact of the pandemic and this has forced the institution to enforce restrictions on the ground and those who still do not comply would be taken to task. “Members of the public are once again reminded that social distancing is important and anyone not following the two metres distancing inside or outside the supermarket in any containment area will be arrested.”
Mr Tudravu said Police officers would closely monitor businesses. He said all employees and customers are to wear face coverings / masks at all times- this should be the case nationwide.
He said the Fiji Police Force would ensure that all these restrictions were enforced and followed at all containment zones including Suva, Lami, Nadi, Nausori and Lautoka. Public Service Vehicle drivers and passengers who are five years or older have to wear masks.
Minibus drivers are to ensure that all passengers in the
minibus are physically from each other.
Police are putting parents and guardians on notice. They are being told to monitor their children and advise them of restrictions in place. Any person outside a containment zone must not enter the containment zone unless authorised by the Permanent distanced
Secretary for Health Medical Services.
And for those living within a containment zone may only travel for employment purposes, accessing services provided by an essential business, or an emergency. and
