Two players who shone during last year’s Skipper Provincial Cup competition have made the Team Fiji women’s sevens rugby team to the Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

Elusive Lautoka centre and captain, Sesenieli Donu and Nadroga’s running full-back Reapi Uluinasau were named in the 12-member squad.

Team Fiji women’s rugby sevens head coach, Saiasi Fuli said Donu, Uluinasau and Laisana Likuceva are the newcomers in the squad.

Donu who played in the forwards with Uluinasau at halfback were the outstanding performers during the PacificAus Sports Oceania Sevens competition in Townsville, Australia, last month.

They along with the rest of the players stood their ground as they took on world’s number one side New Zealand and defending Olympic gold medal champions Australia.

Likuceva and Uluinasau scored tries in their 19-12 upset win over Australia.

“We were blessed to play against New Zealand and Australia where I had an opportunity to test the girls and see who all can take up the challenge when needed,” Fuli said.

“We created a very competitive environment

for them in terms of discipline, fitness, understanding of setpieces and executing the plans against our opponents.”

The women are in Pool B and will play against top seed Canada, France and Brazil. The women’s competition starts on July 29.
