Economics graduates exist in areas of Agriculture, Finance, Labour, Environment, Health, Education, Mining, Land, Business, Innovation and Design, Climate change, Transport, Sports, Technological Advancement, Fisheries, Forestry, Water, Energy, Town Planning and the list goes on.

Though Economics is often misconstrued as a theoretical subject, it has strategic roles and offers an analytical dimension towards nation building.

During this crisis, as labour/ health data becomes statistically critical, economics worries more about the impact of income losses within households.

While businesses look at their bottom line, economists considers how economic activity can be generated to keep the machinery moving that will ensure that those bottom lines are realised.

At the end of the day, economists collate data, run scenario tests on models and devise strategies to assist policymakers to make decisions that matter.

Skills set

Such skill sets are nurtured through the Economics programme at Fiji National University (FNU) where students are trained and gain multiple skills in the field of economics.

Advanced qualification in Economics provides an insightful study of how people behave and organizations operate under constraints of resources.

It provides powerful tools to understand and analyze many aspects of our lives and help us to be an informed, perceptive decision maker.

Economics programme will equip students with the basic and important knowledge of the Finance sector of Fiji including the Banks, Insurance companies, Reserve Bank of Fiji and Ministry of Finance and Planning.
