National Day of Japan Celebration of His Majesty’s Birthday
His Majesty the Emperor’s Birthday is on 23rd February, and it is the National Day of Japan. His Majesty the Emperor is the symbol of the State and of the unity of the people, and performs the acts in matters of the state, which are provided for in the Constitution.
The following instances depict the roles and duties of His Majesty the Emperor.
His Majesty the Emperor appoints the Prime Minister as designated by the Diet (Parliament), attests the appointment and dismissal of Ministers of State including other officials as provided for by law, attests full powers and credentials of Ambassadors as well as Ministers.
His Majesty Emperor Naruhito is the 126th Emperor,
and he ascended to the throne on 1st May 2019. His Majesty was born in 1960 and today, he turns 62. He studied at Oxford University in England from 1983 to 1985 and has been fostering friendly relations with foreign countries since he was the Crown Prince of Japan.
For the enthronement ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor, held in Japan, in October 2019, over
150 Heads of State and many foreign dignitaries were invited.
The former President of Fiji, His Excellency MajorGeneral (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote and the former Madam First Lady eminently represented Fiji at this occasion. Such distinguished participation by Fiji is a testament to the strong friendship between Japan and Fiji.
This is also a great milestone for the goodwill and high-level exchange between Japan and Fiji.
On 12th November last year, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere was inaugurated as the 6th President of Fiji.
On this auspicious day, His Majesty the Emperor conveyed his congratulatory message to His Excellency the President through the Embassy of Japan in Fiji.
Their Imperial Highnesses Crown Prince and Crown Princess Akishino, visited Fiji in 2003, and in this regard, the exchange between the Japanese Imperial family and Fiji looks promising for the future.
