The remaining SODELPA Members of Parliament not named in the first batch of provincial candidates announced last week will be interviewed from May 9 -13.

Party general secretary Lenaitasi Duru said they had named four of their sitting parliamentarians in the first batch.

“After the parliament session, those who applied will be interviewed and a week later we will release the names of the 27 provisional candidates who are left of the 55,” Mr Duru said.

He said not all the party MPs applied for a ticket to stand for SODELPA.

He said Aseri Radrodro, Mikaele Lewere, Simione Rasova, Tanya Waqanika, Viliame Gavoka, Inosi Kuridrani, Adi Litia Qionibaravi, and Anare Jale had applied. However, there was a high chance for SODELPA to disqualify Adi Litia due to medical reasons.

Those who did not apply were Niko Nawaikula, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, Peceli Vosanibola, Ratu Tevita Niumataiwalu, Salote Radrodro and Mosese Bulitavu.

He said those who withdrew their application were Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Jese Saukuru, and Inosi

Kuridrani.

SODELPA in Dialogue to Partner with Unity Fiji Post Elections

Meanwhile, SODELPA and Unity Fiji Party are expected to confirm a date for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that would determine if the two parties could work together postelection if they met the threshold for the 2022 General Election.

SODELPA leader Viliame Gavoka said they were in dialogue with the Unity Fiji Party over an MOU.

“We hope to be announcing that in the next few days,” he said.

“The understanding is that they will hold their ground and we will hold ours and then work together through an MOU.”
