224 families receive donation in time for Eid celebrations
This year, around 224 families in Macuata, Labasa, have received $170 each from the Macuata Muslim League this month.
The donation is part of the Macuata Muslim League’s annual Ramadan Food Pack Project.
President Hazeem Hussein said the project is part of the League’s preparation for Eid celebrations that is aimed at helping families who are less fortunate.
“The money donated would help these families buy groceries and other items in time for Eid celebrations,” he said.
“We have mosques in various parts of Labasa who then identify these families who need the support.
“Aside from this, families also receive either $50 or $100 worth of small groceries every month throughout the year,” he said.
The Macuata Muslim League has also noted an increase in devotees attending prayers at the mosque.
Mr Hussein said the easing of COVID-19 restrictions has contributed to this increase.
“We see more people now coming into the mosque to do their prayers during this fasting month,” he said.
This year, money donated to the less fortunate families have also increased.
Mr Huussein said this year, the donation money was $170 compared to $120 last year.
“Last year families struggled through COVID so it was understandable
that the money was a little less. This year the money had increased because families slowly started returning to work and things slowly normalised,” he said.
Mr Hussein adds that preparations for Eid celebrations were going well as more devotees visited the mosque.
He said part of marking Eid was to appreciate and love thy neighbors.
“Despite the different religions or cultures, they come from, we need to love our neighbors as our family. This is a message I wish to share from the holy quran which emphasis on loving and caring for others,” he said.
He said Eid this year will be different for families as they now will be able to celebrate together.
