Eid has arrived in Tasleem family’s life with a blessing. The family is eager to celebrate Eid at their new home in Laucala Beach, Suva, for the first time.

Zyna Tasleem said they would be having a full day celebration with their families and friends.

“We are looking forward to seeing our loved ones. We haven’t met them in such occasion for the past two years, ever since the pandemic did not permit us to celebrate Eid in a big way,” she said.

“The new normal wasn’t easy for us as Eid is all about mingling with people and because of COVID-19, we couldn’t create good memories.

“This is why we are looking forward for this year’s Eid because we can finally meet and greet.”

However, she said COVID-19 taught her family a lot of things in terms of cutting down on unnecessary spending and giving more importance to family time.

She said she had prepared different kinds of sweets beforehand like Khaja, Marshmallows, Peda, four types Barfi, Laddoo, savouries and many more.

Mrs Tasleem emphasised on the importance of Ramadan during Eid.

“For every Muslim, Eid marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Families are excited as the Ramadan period sums up so they can prepare for Eid,” she added.

“Ramadan began on the April 4. The holy month was about reading of Quran, doing prayers, charity work and helping our loved ones.”

She said Eid was more like a reward of keeping the fast during Ramadan not just by abstaining from food and water, but by changing ourselves for good.

“Being helpful, appreciating things and practicing humanity in this world to earn hereafter,” Mrs Tasleem said.

She said she always remembered all her family and friends in her prayers and those who had passed away last year and this year even during Ramadan.

“To those who are well and healthy to celebrate Eid, please do reflect on what we did during Ramadan and practice it all year,” she said.

“If you’re not in talking terms with your family, please take the first step and solve your issues so that you can celebrate Eid with a clean and pure heart.

“Lastly, I would like to tell my parents, husband, kids, brother, sister in law and my nephews that I appreciate you all and feel thankful to Allah Subhan Wa Ta Ala that I’m alive and healthy to witness Eid Inshallah (God’s will) with you all.”
