Fiji Labour Party (FLP) leader Mahendra Chaudhry will announce the names of their candidates for the 2022 General Election next month.

While he continues with pocket meetings, Mr Chaudhry said they did not want to rush into announcing the names now as they were into the process of screening through the applications.

He said even though the closing date for candidates’ applications was on April 10, people kept on sending their applications and he was overwhelmed.

“We have received applications from all over Fiji and are currently scrutinising to select the best candidates,” he said.

“There are some places and districts from where we received more than two applications.”

He said they had to consult with the local people to see their choices and so this process would take some time.

He revealed that they were looking at more people from the younger generation.

Meanwhile, he said the party was gearing up for the General Election as there was not much time left.

“Of course the election is going to happen soon and we have to be ready.”

He said they had a youth leader based in Nadi.

Now they were trying to establish the same position in Vanua Levu.
