Newly inducted Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Primary School head prefects are ready to lead by example.

Head girl, Avani Bhuvana Kumar and head boy Jai Dayal are well versed with the expectations from both teachers and students.

They were deputy head prefects last year.

Chief guest, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Surend Sami said leadership was about serving.

“As a child you have been able to capture this leadership position which will make a huge change in the journey that you have ahead of you.”

He added as leaders, prefects must be able to influence others by the way they lead.

“Your actions must be exemplary at all times,” he said.

Avani was elated after being badged.

“I feel proud of myself because my hard-work has paid off,” she said.

Avani’s mother, Anjali Kumar said her daughter had made the necessary sacrifices to be where she was today.

“She toiled over the past seven years, there were so many obstacles along the way, but she finally achieved it,” Mrs Kumar said.

“I have managed being a leader since class one so I’m sure I can manage this role as well,” she said.

She aspires to be a businesswoman.

Head boy, Jai Dayal said: “Leaders should be disciplined and good academic wise and I want this school to be good and excellent academic wise.”

The school has more than 800 students and 78 were badged prefects.
