Minister visits soldiers building classrooms for school in Bua
Minister of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu visited the soldiers and engineers from four regions carrying out the construction at Lekutu Secondary School in Bua yesterday.
He said he was indeed grateful to the Australian Government for assistance since Tropical Cyclone (TC) Yasa which struck Vanua Levu on December 17, 2020.
“Along with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and Australian Defence Force (ADF), French and Kiwi engineers and soldiers have also joined in the construction of the classrooms that were damaged during TC Yasa,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“I am grateful for the strong partnership from the friends in the region and most importantly the Australian Government for the package.”
He said the construction began last year and was expected to be completed by the end of July.
“We have a timeline of two months and we look forward to the completion of this project so that students of the rural communities in Vanua Levu particularly in Lekutu in Bua can enjoy the best of facilities and carry on with the normal academic year which has already started,” he said.
Mr Seruiratu said that the purpose of his surprise visit to the troops was to encourage and acknowledge them for the work they did.
He toured around the school for inspection and took photos with the soldiers.
