CLIMATE CHANGE TOP ON TURKEY - FIJI BILATERAL MEET
A-G AIYAZ SAYED-KHAIYUM HIGHLIGHTS FIJI’S VULNERABILITY TO CLIMATE CHANGE . Ambassador Omür Unsay discusses Turkey’s goal to work with Fiji to provide solutions to Pacific challenges.
Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met with the Turkish Non-Resident Ambassador, Fatma Ömür Ünsay yesterday.
During their meeting, the A-G highlighted Fiji’s vulnerability to climate change and the recent mitigation and
adaptation strategies undertaken by the Fijian Government, including the construction of climate-resilient infrastructure.
The A-G also stressed the importance of accessing affordable climate finance, and having the support of bilateral partners to assist Fiji in
meeting its climate change commitments.
Ambassador Ömür Ünsay highlighted Turkey’s climate agenda for this year, which focuses on updated nationally determined contributions in line with the Paris climate agreement and a road map to reach the 2053 net zero emissions target.
She also highlighted Turkey’s goal to work with Fiji to provide solutions to a number of Pacific challenges.
