CLIMATE CHANGE TOP ON TURKEY - FIJI BILATERAL MEET

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met with the Turkish Non-Resident Ambassador, Fatma Ömür Ünsay yesterday.

During their meeting, the A-G highlighte­d Fiji’s vulnerabil­ity to climate change and the recent mitigation and

adaptation strategies undertaken by the Fijian Government, including the constructi­on of climate-resilient infrastruc­ture.

The A-G also stressed the importance of accessing affordable climate finance, and having the support of bilateral partners to assist Fiji in

meeting its climate change commitment­s.

Ambassador Ömür Ünsay highlighte­d Turkey’s climate agenda for this year, which focuses on updated nationally determined contributi­ons in line with the Paris climate agreement and a road map to reach the 2053 net zero emissions target.

She also highlighte­d Turkey’s goal to work with Fiji to provide solutions to a number of Pacific challenges.
