Man, 77, Faces Rape Charge of Minor

State lawyer Setefano Komaibaba filed and served voir dire disclosure­s at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday in the case of a 77-year-old man.

The man is charged with the rape of a minor.

The matter was heard before Justice Riyaz Hamza and the accused was represente­d by Legal Aid Commission lawyer Esiteri Radrole.

The accused is charged with onecount of wrongful confinemen­t,one count of rape and sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Lautoka on December 14, 2020.

For the charge of sexual assault, it is alleged that he unlawfully and indecently assaulted the victim.

Ms Radrole told the court that the accused had been in remand since

March 22, 2021.

Justice Hamza told Mr Komaibaba that the state would be given a month to file the agreed facts and Ms Radrole told the court that she would check the voir dire disclosure­s to ensure nothing was missing.

Justice Hamza adjourned the matter to June 3 for mention.
