THOUGHT FOR TODAY FS #206/22

PROVIDED BY THE RETIRED MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT OF

; THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

& OF THE UPPER HOUSE; THE SENATE: CABINET MINISTER, SENATOR & AMBASSADOR: SIR JAMES MICHAEL AH KOY, KBE, CF, PAPALII, OBE, OF,

JP, CÒMMISSIONER FOR OATHS, FCIM, FIOD, FIIM, FIMGT, FBIM, FEAAA,

FROM FOREVER YOUNG, LIVING AND DYING FOR CHRIST: 1 WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN MARTYR? The word “martyr” is from the Greek word for “witness.” All of my dictionaries agree that a martyr is one or all of three things: 1. One who chooses to suffer death rather than renounce religious principles. 2. One who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause, or principle. 3. One who endures great suffering.

If we combine these definitions, we understand a Christian Martyr to be:

1. A person who witnesses for Jesus Christ by choosing to suffer death rather than renounce Him or His works,

2. A person who makes great sacrifices or suffers much as a witness for

Jesus Christ, to spread the gospel, and to advance the kingdom of God.

3. A person who suffers greatly for being a Christian.

There are those who say a Christian cannot be a martyr for Jesus Christ unless they are killed for Him. But if given the choice of being killed quickly or enduring imprisonment, torture and constant pain for months and years-----and perhaps being crippled and in pain for the rest of your life as a result----which would you choose? Most of us would opt for the bullet every time. Oftentimes it takes far more faith, strength and courage to endure long--term suffering and pain.

SOUL SEARCH: HOW DO YOU RATE? THINK ABOUT IT? FROM GOD’S WORD, THE BIBLE :READ IT, BELIEVE IT, DO IT.
