FBC celebrates Eid to honour muslim staff members

- WATI TALEBULA-NUKU SUVA Edited by Selita Rabuku

It is important that everyone knows about each other’s culture and acknowledge the similarities rather than differences.

For a multi-cultural and multifaith country as Fiji we need to be able to do this.

This was the advice from the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) chief executive officer Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during their Eid celebration yesterday.

“For more than a decade we have been celebrating all major religious festivals but we have never celebrated Eid. This year we have an innovation committee at FBC and they decided that they should celebrate Eid as well and they organise this to tell the rest of the staff about the significance of Ramzan, Eid and to clear any misconception,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“It is to basically help the Muslim staff celebrate their festival as well.

“It is good fun and team building and hopefully other organisations will do the same. Next we will celebrate Diwali. We gave away fruit buns at the lights during Easter. We will have an Eid car park celebration at Rups Complex in Nasinu this weekend,” he said.

Minister for Education Heritage and Arts Premila Kumar was the chief guest at the event. She enjoyed every moment of the celebration.
