Better community engagement and repetitive awareness on mitigating dengue cases has helped the declining number of dengue cases in the Northern Division.

Divisional Medical Officer, Dr Tiko Saumalua, said the previous COVID-19 cleanliness awareness had contributed to the continuation of better surveillance of other disease outbreaks.

Dr Saumalua said the current cases of dengue fever were lower than in previous years.

He said community engagements in cleanup communities had immensely supported their dengue mitigation efforts.

Their Environment Health Officers along with their teams were active in their various leptospirosis, typhoid, dengue and diarrhea (LTDD) clean-ups.

“We had a surge in dengue cases in the last two months, but, these case numbers have dropped,” he said.
