I don’t have a lot of confidence in myself. Meeting and hearing these women’s background of how they run their business boosted my confidence. Because of that, I’m able to run my business at home and also look after my son. Unaisi Simpson Participant of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs programme

Unaisi Simpson’s home-based baking business is looking to build up its confidence. The opportunity to be trained by the Women Entrepreneurs Business Council (WEBC) in 2021 under the United States Embassy’s Academy for Women Entrepreneurs programme granted her the opportunity to do just that.

“I don’t have a lot of confidence in myself. Meeting and hearing these women’s background of how they run their business boosted my confidence,” the 28-year-old said.

“Because of that, I’m able to run my business at home and also look after my son.”

She had difficulties in participating in the programme last year because of connectivity issues, but she kept pushing to be a part of it.

“There was one lady that I really admired during the training. She would travel from Lami to Makoi just to use her cousin’s laptop so that she could take part in the online training.”

Mrs Simpson’s business - Bake This Happen - thrives to this day.

“It is never too late to start a business. There is no age limit from starting your business. Also believe in yourself that you can do it.”
