Northland Rugby plans to develop own ground

- SEREANA SALALO SUVA Edited by Karalaini Waqanidrola

Securing a ground to call their own has been a challenge to the Northland Rugby Union.

NRU president Livai Driu has raised their concern in last Saturday’s Fiji Rugby Union Annual General Meeting at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Nadi.

According to Driu they have secured a piece of land in Korovou.

“The AGM went well especially with the financial report. We have seen that sponsors have come on board to support FRU,” Driu said.

“We have seen that we have excelled and according to the AGM we have seen the participation of the teams.

“Our issue is the ground. We have secured a five acre piece of land which will be developed so that we can host matches five years from now.

“It will take two to three years to develop that ground and Fiji Rugby has come on board to support us just to upgrade that piece of land.

“Instead of relying on schools around Korovou for our matches, we will soon have our own.”

Northland will host Naitasiri tomorrow at Gatward Park before they challenge the Farebrother trophy on May 21 up in Naluwai.

“We will be hosting Naitasiri in the next round and we hope to give them a good game.”

The Northland versus Naitasiri on tomorrow kicks off at 3pm.
