We are the future of our nation, think big and aim high. Those were the words shared by Sivaniolo Koyanasau who was badged as the head boy for the Sigatoka Methodist Primary School yesterday.

He led a student council team of 89 with a total school roll of 837.

“Let’s remember this – to lead is to serve, a good leader needs to lead by example and not by force,” he said.

“A good leader will be able to earn respect by his or her actions and deeds rather than threats and commands.”

The Bureta, Ovalau native added that when classmates were doing something wrong, guide them to the right path.

“If they are stuck, help them,” he said.

Head girl Maca Nareki said: “Good leaders take the lead. They show the way and help others with how things are to be done.

“There will be failures in life, but each failure must strengthen you to strive harder for success.

Success comes to those only who persevere, who work hard, display honesty and integrity,” the Natewa native said.

Chief guest and former head teacher Maika Suliano said, “I encourage you always to set a good example so that others may follow. Leadership is about serving. So as school prefects, you must have positive attitudes to serve and not to be served.”

“Parents continue to play your part in the education of your children. Continue supporting their growth; remember that education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”
