Philemon Vesikuru shed tears after being inducted as the head boy of St Marcellin Primary School, Suva. The 14-year-old wished his father was here to witness him being badged.

“He is in the British Army and when he got to know, he cried,” he said of his father when news of the induction was communicated across.

He said his teachers had supported him a lot and dedicated his achievements to one of his teachers, Ms Williams.

“She was my biggest role model in my life, she always saw the best in me and never had any doubts.”

The head boy aims to help children become better versions of themselves.

The eldest brother of two siblings wants to lead them to the right path.

Head girl Losalini Bola, 12, said she couldn’t hold back her tears.

“I was trying not to cry when I went up to the stage but when my friends started cheering for me, my tears just came,” she said. Edited by Jeremiah Ligairi
