Do you think people who have criminal convictions overseas should be barred from contesting the General Election in Fiji? Why??

They should be barred because they could influence other people once elected to engage in corruption and other criminal offences, also people will not trust them because of their past records.
SUVA LABASA
I will not vote for people who have a criminal conviction record. I want a Government where the elected leaders have a clean record and show healthy relationships with their community and nation as a whole. We need leaders with good character and attitude.
LAUTOKA
Pita Speight If you are a citizen then you should be allowed.
Atish Ram I believe instead of having convicted criminals to stand in the general election, we should focus on encouraging more youths to contest. This way our country will have bright minds with innovative ideas to build a modern Fiji.
Diwan Chand I don’t think people with criminal convictions overseas should contest in the elections because they would bring with them their criminal mindset that could be very disturbing and potentially create a fearful environment for the ordinary population.
Karuna Devi They should not stand for the 2022 General Election because of their past criminal history. If the person is elected into parliament, chances are, he will represent this same criminal mindset.
Lai Tawake They should not contest whether they have committed a crime locally or abroad. They can commit criminal activities again if they hold such power.
Mereani Masivou I don’t think they should contest for the General Election in Fiji because I believe the criteria of every party is that the candidates should have clear criminal records.
Savitri Devi If they had done something wrong before, they can commit the same thing again. But if they are willing to do something good for the people, then why not give them a chance.
Wati Matanisiga Yes, because if they are convicted criminals, they shouldn’t be representing Fiji. It will be a bad example for others.
Usa Koroinamua Yes, if we let them contest, there is a high chance of them committing the same crime again.
Ravinesh Vikaswan They should not be allowed because their thinking is different so we never know.
Junior Pulea How can the people trust them. I think they should not contest for the General Election in Fiji.
Asupa Taivoce They should not contest in the general election because they might commit crime again if in power.
Sarita Gounder Yes they should be barred from contesting, but they can vote because they are Fijian citizens.
Kasanita Vatavueti Yes they should be barred, but they can vote because they want to support us.
Lewa Lewaivalu Give them a chance. Maybe they have changed and want to do good for their people. No one is perfect.
Roneel Prasad They should be given a second chance. We are all human beings and we all make mistakes.
Steven Pesamino If it’s a serious crime then don’t let them contest.
Solo Mataunicere Yes, but it also depends on the type of crimes they have committed.
