Jovilisi aims to maintain school discipline

Jovilisi Vuketu is determined to instill discipline during his term as Lomolomo Public School head boy.

The Nabukadra, Ra native, with maternal links to Nalidi, Nakorotubu was inducted a head prefect on Thursday.

The Lautoka-based school’s head girl is Tanvi Chetty.

The duo had been tasked with assisting the school administra­tion in overseeing the school’s 185 students.

“I will make sure students do not swear, bully or create mischief,” he said.

“At the same time, it’s well known that these students may come from different background­s and sometimes they swear and disrespect the teachers so I will ensure that stops.

“I want to lead them to become better individual­s in the future.

“I was brought up at my mother’s village of Nalidi, Ra, then I came to the kindergart­en here till Year Eight. My father was the sole bread winner and my mother a domestic worker.”

He said his once his older siblings secured employment and got married, the responsibi­lity to financiall­y support his family was equally shared.

“Now they (his older brother and sister) are the ones supporting our family, we stay near the school and it just takes two minutes to walk home.

“I know my parents would be proud of me because we came from the village and I achieved this,” he added.

Head girl Tanvi said: “I grew up here, unfortunat­ely my mother left us last year so I have a single parent.

My father is amazing and I have two siblings, all girls. My older sister is at Natabua High School and my youngest sister is in Year Five 5.

“I have been a perfect since I began school after kindergart­en so I developed that ability at a young age.

“I want to be a role model for others. To be a guide and a leader and I will help teachers maintain rule and regulation­s.”

While officiatin­g as chief guest the Minister for Employment, Productivi­ty and Industrial Relations, Youth and Sports, Parveen Bala said the Government was committed to support and make every effort to help students realise their dream.

The deputy head boy is Manav Karan and the deputy head girl is Shrishti Lata.
