The nation’s two top scorers in the 2021 Year 12 Certificate Examination will be taking on leadership roles this academic year.

Shriha Deo, 17, and Demira Lal, 18, who both attend Jai Narayan College in Suva were chosen to be leaders of the school during the prefects induction ceremony on Thursday.

Shriha is the school’s deputy head girl while Demira is a Year 13 prefect. The duo both scored 398 out of 400 in their external examinations.

For Shriha, she believed consistency was what students needed in order to excel.

“You need to be consistent with what you do. Work hard towards what you have set and get it done,” she said.

“Students must learn how to manage their time wisely because it will help you keep track of your school work. Balance your school and leisure life as well because that is what keeps our sanity.

“Work smart. We are in an era where resources are readily available, but it is what you do with it that will determine your output.”

Demira said effective time management would help students

achieve greater goals in life.

“One area that I want to address this year is time management. If we know how to manage our time well, we can surely do what we have set our mind to.

“I’ve seen my parents work hard to put me in school and it is only right if that I make myself proud by achieving more.”

They will be assisting the Head Boy, Jasveen Singh and Head Girl, Tannistha Chanra this year.
