Vehicle veers off-road, lands four in hospital

Four people survived an accident when their Toyota Prius 1.8 hybrid vehicle veered off the road at Lajonia, Labasa on Wednesday night.

Police spokespers­on, Wame Bautolu, said the near-death accident happened at around 8pm on Wednesday night.

Mr Bautolu said the driver and all three passengers including one minor were rushed to the Labasa Divisional Hospital after sustaining injuries from the crash.

He said an investigat­ion was continuing to ascertain the cause of the accident.

“Police have yet to take the driver and the passenger’s statement,” he said.

The Land Transport Authority continued to station its officers in different locations in the Northern Division to curb vehicle over-speeding issues.

The airbags of the vehicle were found to be deployed indicating the potential scale of impact when the crash occurred.
