Adetermined Vuiviawa Naduvaco, believed that local club games developed his knowledge to understand his role as a winger that resulted in him scoring 10 tries on his HSBC World Sevens Series debut in Singapore last month. The Semo, Nadroga, speedster was named Player of the Final after he impressed coaches and fans with his blistering speed scoring 10 tries to equal the record set by another Fijian winger Filimoni Bolavucu. Naduvaco was grateful that divine intervention got him to where he is today.

He played football while at secondary school but it did not take away his dream to represent his country in rugby.

“I never dreamt of reaching this place because it was just a dream to don the white jersey,” said Naduvaco.

“I went to an Indian school and played soccer throughout my school days and I only started playing rugby for my club, Tuva. “Becoming a Fijian 7s rep was just a dream but to actually be part of the team shows God’s mercy and love and I thank him for this opportunity.”

He indicated to score 10 tries was only made possible through the efforts of his team-mates.

“I just do the finishing and that goes back to all the tries I scored in the club games. I have been playing as a wing and I have been studying my running lines and it made all of this possible,” he added.

“I used to love watching Aminiasi Tuimaba and how he played. He knows where to run exactly at the right time and I have learnt a lot from him.”

The Fijian 7s team are currently camping in Korotogo, Sigatoka, before they depart for France at the end of next week for the Toulouse 7s tournament from May 20-22.
