Giving Birth is a Wonderful Blessing for Mom: Dr Ecube
It is a joyous moment to witness how women become mothers as their baby comes into this world. For Doctor Florecilla Ecube, her journry as the Head of the Birthing Unit at Oceania Hospital has been soothing as well as exciting as she herself is a mom.
The 53-year-old who is originally from Philippines, is currently practicing as a General Practitioner in the Department of Neonatology and Pediatrics at Oceania Hospitals.
Dr Ecube recently joined Oceania Hospitals and was previously engaged with the Labasa Hospital under Ministry of Health.
“When I became a mom for the first time, I was ecstatic and scared,” she said.
“I knew that my responsibilities are huge and I prayed for continuous strength to hold me through this amazing chapter of my life.”
She explained there were days which were tiring for her, but even these tiring days had rewards like the smile of an innocent child at work and the bubbly smile and enthusiasm of two teenagers whenever she got home.
“The new birthing facility at Oceania Hospitals aimed to provide a premium care service and smooth journey for mothers during the delivery process,” she said.
“The team is excited in providing this service as we have been getting a lot of queries on our birthing facility.”
She said working and looking after her children wasn’t a challenge for her but was an opportunity.
“I feel I am blessed to be able to work with fervor in both roles, as a doctor and a mother,” Dr Ecube said.
“It is possible that both motherhood and profession can be handled well at the same time. I am blessed with good a team at work and at a supportive family at home.”
Dr Ecube is a mother of two and she said she was blessed with two extraordinary teenagers who were schooling in Suva.
“Motherhood is a unique experience. I am fortunate that I am a mother. Motherhood to me defines itself as not only being a caring person, but also being a friend to my children,” she said.
“Good communication, unconditional love and extra ordinary patience to me defines motherhood.”
She said her role model was her mother who was a working professional and a mother of a large family.
“She managed her role confidently and easily. I learnt a lot from her,” Dr Ecube added.
“Being a woman does not mean that you have to abandon the role of motherhood for being a good professional or vice versa,” she said.
“It is possible to do both with ease. There are countless women who had done this before me and countless who are doing it at present and will do it in the future.
“Motherhood is an endless process of giving joyously. Given a chance I would like to be a mother in all my lifetimes.”
Dr Ecube said she will be spending quality time with her children and her husband on Mother’s Day.
