For every mother, providing the best for their children’s future has always been the number one priority. Whether this meant making sacrifices or furthering studies for better opportunities, the goal remains the same.

For 29 year – old Salanieta Tavo, giving a better future for her two kids has always been her greatest motivation.

The young mum runs a small home-based jewelry business which has helped support her little family.

“My jewelry pieces have been going well as I am able to make around $100 a day,” she said.

“I learnt how to make jewelries from attending trainings at the Solo Moms Project which has really helped me start this business.”

Two to three weeks of training, Ms Tavo had started her jewelry business.

Her client tell were friends around Qauia settlement in Lami and customers that reached out to her through facebook.

Ms Tavo is a single mom who has great interests in starting her own business.

She hails from Moala, Lau with maternal links to Vatoa. Her goal was to be able to extend her business to include sewing and baking.

“I hope to one day be able to buy my house and have a roof over my children’s heads.

“While I have very supportive parents whom I currently live with, building my own house from my own earnings would be a dream come true,” she said.

Before her jewelry business, Ms Tavo was baking cakes and pies to sell and helped around decorating the church during special functions.

She found that being a single mum had no limitations achieving anything in life.

“When I had my first child, I was still a teenager and felt that it was the end of the world for me.

“But after going through the trainings at Solo Moms Project, I started to realise that being a mom does not stop you from achieving your goals of doing a business or furthering your studies.”

Through her jewelry business, Ms Tavo is able to make a difference in the lives of her two kids.
