Every day I am a mum to my four children so THEY ALWAYS COME fiRST BUT WHEN IT COMES TO MY flOWER business, I have to manager both. Meme Cawani

Managing a flower business while looking after the family is a trait Meme Cawani is best known for. She multitasks being a mom and an entrepreneur to help contribute to her family’s income.

She said being a mom is no easy job but the joy of meeting her children’s needs through her flower business was encouraging.

“Every day I am a mum to my four children so they always come first but when it comes to my flower business, I have to manage both,” she said.

Mrs Cawani started her flower business during the COVID-19 lockdown.

“I have other businesses which I was running such as the canteen, jewelry making, tie and dye and screen printing,” she said.

“These businesses slowed down during the pandemic as I would sell these items to tourists during their visits in Colo-iSuva.”

She started with fruit trees that she would plant from seedlings bought from the market.

Watching these fruit trees bear, gave her an idea to also start a flower business.

“Colo-i-Suva has fertile soil so I was able to grow beautiful flowers that I could sell at the market,” she said.

Mrs Cawani took part in the week long Abor week in Suva where she was able to make a decent earning.

Before starting the day for her business, she had to ensure that her children were all set for school.

“I woke up at 4.30am to start my day and by 7am everyone is gone to school and woke,” she said.

“From 7am, I do my household chores before I leave for the day to sell flowers.

“Last week, I was able to earn $500 just from selling flowers.”

She said although it takes time to grow the flowers, the value in the market was good.

“Florists would know how valuable the flowers are by its uniqueness, colors, usage and how long it took to grow them.”

Mrs Cawani enjoys her flower business as it is more relaxing.

She wishes all mothers in Fiji a blessed Mother’s day as she plans to spend the day with family and friends.
