Leadership is not a new challenge for Suva Muslim College head prefects Nabeelah Bano and Ahad Ali.

Ahad, 18, was appointed head boy while Nabeelah was badged the head girl on Friday.

The school leaders said they were honoured to be given the opportunity to lead and were looking forward to guide and empower other students for the 2022 academic year.

“I am quite overwhelmed because the school heads were not announced beforehand,” Ahad said.

“We just got to know that we are the head prefects and I am quite happy.”

The 18-year-old said his aim was to be a bold leader.

“I want to be a friendly and bold leader. I don’t want the students to be afraid of me, but they should listen to me as well,” he said.

“They should follow the rules and also enjoy themselves at the same time.”

Ahad is also well known among his peers for scooping the dux award twice since primary school.

“I scored 392/400 in Year 12 examination and also scored the highest in Year 8,” Ahad said.

“I know how to balance my time, cope with my studies and my leadership roles.”

He dedicated his achievement to his parents.

Head girl, Nabeelah was overwhelmed with the support she received from students when she stood up to be badged.

The 18-year-old said it was something she would cherish forever.

“I am a bit surprised to be honest,” she said.

“I have been getting leadership roles since primary school, but now I feel like it’s finally being appreciated.

“When they called out my name to be the head girl, all the students started clapping, shouting and whistling. I felt like I am known for something and that they will remember me for many years for being the head girl.”

Nabeelah also wants to inspire others to pursue leadership qualities

“I want to teach them something that they can carry throughout their lives.”

She is first in her family to be badged the head girl.
