Fijiana eye World Cup

Super W champions, the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua women’s rugby side arrived into the country last night.

The family members, friends and staff members of Rooster Chicken were at Nadi Internatio­nal Airport to welcome the team.

In their Super W debut year, the Fijians defied all odds to win the title and were unbeaten throughout the competitio­n.

Then they played for the Rooster Chicken Fijiana XVs in the Tri Series against Japan and Wallaroos.

This is part of their preparatio­ns for the Women’s Rugby World Cup, which is from October 8 to November 12.

Head coach Senirusi Seruvakula told SUNsports they had played at a higher level of competitio­n.

He indicated that they were able to gauge their strength and also areas they need to work on before the World Cup.

“We’re looking forward to the Oceania competitio­n and probably another Test match as we build-up for the World Cup,” he said.

“The girls will get some free time this week before we start our World Cup preprarati­ons from next week.”

Seruvakula said he would soon announce his extended squad.

“We’ll have a fitness test next Friday. I’ll take it from there as I want to take the best players to the World Cup,” he added.

Captain Bitila Tawake thanked their sposnors Rooster Chicken.

“We’ve learnt so much and winning the (Super W) competitio­n was a bonus for us,” she said.
