Kadavu mortuary woes, islanders to bury deceased relatives on same day
The only mortuary on the island of Kadavu is not in operation due to mechanical problems.
People have been urged to bury their loved ones as soon as possible without taking their deceased relative to a morgue.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services confirmed that the mortuary at Vunisea Hospital would be in operation before May 20.
Vunisea Hospital which houses the mortuary had a burial support team to help in coordinating any escalated burial needs.
In a statement, the Ministry said that in cases of suspected foul play the body of the deceased was handled by Police who would send bodies to Suva for post-mortem examination.
At the moment there have been no reports of suspected foul play on the deceased persons received at the hospital.
