asper Primary School head girl Faith Khan says she uses all the criticism regarding her name to motivate her to excel academically.
Faith and co-head girl Lauren Wasine were inducted alongside 110 school prefects last Friday. They will be tasked to lead 648 students.
“My father is a Muslim and my mother is from Macuata so I get asked a lot about my name,” she said.
“I used to get a little bullied. “I really want to talk to the student council members about knowing yourself spiritually and how you can impact others mentally and physically.
“That’s what I want to help teachers at this school achieve with the students.”
“I dedicate my achievement to my aunt and my parents for their never-ending support and always
loving and supporting me through everything and that’s what I really take to heart.”
Jasper Primary School co-head girl Lauren Wasine comes from a single-parent family where her mother was assisted by her grandparents.
“My grandmother and grandfather raised me and my siblings. My mother wanted all of us to be together so me and all my sisters are in Jasper and I’ve been here since Kindergarten.
The second eldest of four siblings said her grandparents expressed how proud they were of her achievement since it was a first for her family.
“I’m with Faith in wanting to get the student council together because prefects should know their duties and role so we can show our little sisters and be good role models,” she said.
The deputy head girls are Nishika Krishna and Salaseini Tanivula.
